Interactive Learning
Instead of using only the traditional lecture format, communication studies classes involve a variety of learning activities, presentations, online discussion boards, study groups, electronic references, and e-mail. You, other students, and your professors will enrich each other with a mix of diverse cultural and ethnic communication backgrounds.

"Smart" Classrooms
Classrooms are equipped with equipment that allow students to videotape their work. Students and professors also have access to high-tech visual aids, the Internet, and other technologies during their presentations.

Real-World Professional Guidance
Deaf and hard of hearing professionals and community leaders visit classes to discuss communication challenges and successes in the work world, accessibility issues, and are also called upon to evaluate student presentations.

Technology Access Program
The Communication Studies Department has a research unit called the Technology Access Program that strives to make sure communication technology is accessible for all deaf and hard of hearing people. As a major, you can learn about the latest technology and issues from TAP's faculty and staff, and may be invited to test new communication technologies.
